Eastern And Oriental Hotel Georgetown (Malaysia)
Eastern And Oriental Hotel Georgetown (Malaysia) Reviews
Eastern & Oriental Hotel since 1885 Oct 16, 2009
Something old meets something new, something borrowed from Colonial era meets something blue… the blue blue sky, though I search and searched, I can’t find the sixpence in her shoes. Oh well, I think the sixpence might have gone into a fraction of the price of her shoes. If you guess I am there attending a wedding, you’ve got it right! With the sunset as the facade, the delicate sea breeze in your hair, the nicely chilled chardonnay in your hand and the laughter of friends, a lovely setting for weddings indeed.
The allure of this magnificent hotel rests in its preservation of its old world charms yet meeting the new world luxuries. The bare lobby adorned with collections from colonial times have proven to be simple yet elegant. The quaint Presidential Suite or known as Eastern & Oriental Suite is a place where you can play hide and seek, does that gives you an inkling of how spacious it is? The dining room in the suite allows the entourage to imitate a scene of “The Apprentice”… with loud vocal “You’re Fired” so people at the other end of the table could hear. It could seat up to 22! There is also a kitchenette and bar at the end of the room where the endless supply of booze is stored, hence the entourage decides to stay on till the wee hours keeping the “Just Married” couple company. What can I say about the lounge area besides being double the size of the dining room; and how about the numerous sofas that will be beddings for many of the intoxicated wedding guests? Nothing much except the sofas really comfy! The dressing room, this would be a woman’s narcissist dream, mirrors, mirrors on the wall, who is the fairest of them all? From the dresser it leads to the bathroom, imagine yourself sipping on champagne while relaxing in the hot tub overlooking the sea. The seafront view adds a nice touch to the scene. Now that is life! The restaurants along the lobby area For sunrise, you would like to dine alfresco at the Verandah, where breakfast is served at the terrace at the promenade area surrounded by greeneries and sea view. If you fancy some traditional English afternoon tea amidst an elegant setting, you will be delighted to know that they have it at The 1885 restaurant. There are a few more outlets like The Bakery, Sarkies Corner, Farquhar Bar and The Deck but I am too busy to check them all out since I’ve been pretty busy sipping on my lovely wine and chilling at the suite. :) The Eastern & Oriental Hotel is a reminiscence of the grandeur of colonial times; this indeed is a classic heritage hotel. |

Old world charm, but beware Mar 02, 2007
The rooms are large and traditionally furnished, but some rooms, particularly at the front are noisy, even in the high end suites the lift can be heard rattling away throughout the night and becomes very annoying. Its worth a night, but not a lon...read entire review at TravelPost.com
