Eastern Airways Prestwick Reviews
UK Domestic Carrier Nov 27, 2011
Eastern Airway's are a domestic carrier in the UK, mainly for business travel although obviously not solely limited to that. The operate out of most regional UK airports, particularly the North and Scotland and also offer flights to Stavanger in Norway. The airline increased its fleet recently with the purchase of now-defunct Air Southwest (UK). Most of its fleet are small turboprops (propellers rather than jet engines) carrying between 30-60 passengers. Staff are friendly and you do get free drinks and snacks on-board and a copy of 'The Spectator' for those politically minded or artsy sorts. They also have a good record of being on time, through when I flew to Bradford the first time they were an hour late, however another passenger who flies to Aberdeen each week (they use a Bristol-Bradford-Aberdeen route three times per day. Very strange getting off a plane when others stay on!) said that this was the first time he'd had any delay in months so perhaps I was simply unlucky.
Now, the advantages. If you book a fully flexible ticket with them you are entitled to free airport lounge access in most of the airports they fly from and in several (including Bristol and Leeds-Bradford that I flew from) you are given a 'fast track' ticket to use a certain channel at security in order to get you through quicker and avoid queues.
Overall I have nothing bad to say about them besides bring an ipod with you as the turboprops are pretty loud and because of the small size of the aircraft you tend to feel wind pressure a lot more, making the landings a little hairy!
