Last may I celebrated my birthday with two of my closest friends at Bonaire. I did not feel like trowing a party so last minute I arranged a long weekend.
With the plane from Curacao it's a mere 15 minutes and we flew in a somewhat big plane to our destination. Bonaire as part of the Dutch Antilles ( just like Curacao) was a frequently destination we traveled to when I was little. We had friends there so it was as easy as counting to three to go there. It was almost 13 years since I visited Bonaire so I was very curious how much has stayed the same. I just fell in love all over again. Although just fifteen minutes traveling ( it's like taking the train in Holland from The Hague to Rotterdam, how surreal is that or taking a drive from my home to the beach)I felt in a different continent. The people are more mellow then on Curacao. NO NIGHTLIFE so I was happy that there was a Jazz weekend on the island with artists like Paoli Mejillas, Gerardo Rosales. At least there was something to do because I must be quite honest that without that weekend I would have only been lying at the pool ( bonaire is great for diving not swimming or sunbathing) and counting the hours to go back to Curacao. BUT Bonaire has a wide selection of restaurants. The coziest ever. I like to eat so it was like paradise for me. Brunching at the City cafe, dinner at It's rains fishes( International), Donna & Giorgio ( Italian) Richards, so many to name! All with the sea in eyesight, candles, warm people and so good prices!! I had a blast, driving in the day with a beat up Samurai ( sometimes I was afraid to fall out) Doing the tour of the island for the 100th time but still enyoing it! Radio loud and singing to it. Greeting people on the streets with a nice dinner in the evening, jazz on the beach and great friends to share it with!! I must not forget to tell you about Little Havana. Dark, friendly with great atmoshere..... I reccomend Bonaire to everyone. Whenever your in the neighbourhood. You must take the time to spend at least a day and a night there! We flew back happy and not wanting to go back to Curacao! In the tiniest plane ever!! Strange that the lugagge fitted in the plane! We stayed in a nice app.(www.sunrentals.com) Very Clean ( with a divehop), swimmingpool in the city so we walked on the boulevard and made a pick at restaurants. All and all it was a FUN Girl's WEEKEND what I won't forget soon! We made pact ; Every girlfriend will celebrate her 29th b-day in Bonaire and what happens in Bonaire stays in Bonaire
I'm not here for your entertainm…
