Duomo di Milano Feb 28, 2015
I had short time in Milan. But I'm 100% sure I'll head there again soon !

As I love (!!!) Italy very much, and I like Milan from the little time I have spent there :)

In the middle of the city there is a big cathedral called Duomo di Milano....which is the most famous one.

It's has its own special magic, as its gothic design.

We didn't been inside, due to our short stay...but that square is the central area, and from been there you can fell the reydom of the city.

Nice place to start your trip in Milan Mar 12, 2012
If you are going to Milan the first time, Piazza del Duomo is the best start to see the architecture heritage of the city. Piazza del Duomo is filled with cafés, restaurants and stores if you would like to eat or go shopping.

But the most important thing is undoubtedly the fourth biggest cathedral of Europe ( Duomo di Milano ) stands here and every visitor should visit there at once in my opinion. It will make you feel the history of the city and it is really nice to see the nice art pictures or statues situated inside the cathedral.

If you go to Milan, start your journey from here and you won't be disappointed.

I remember the first time I saw the Duomo in Milano. I was absolutely blown away. I remember I sat by the statue of the man riding a horse and remained looking at the building for like 15 minutes, I couldn't get over its magnificent beauty! This is by far the most beautiful cathedral I have ever seen anywhere in the world :)

Breathtaking architecture Apr 16, 2011
It is the most importan cathedral of Milan. Situated in the heart of the city. It is the fourth largest cathedral in the world, it has a gothic style and it took almost six centuries to complete.

The roof is open to tourist (€ 6,00 more or less) which allows many a close-up view of some spectacular sculpture. There usually in summer they organize very expensive concerts, but worth to be seen if you have the chance. The inside of the cathedral can be visited for free.

I've always lived in Milan, or near it , and I may say "I'm tired of seeing this mastodontic building every time i go out of the underground!"..The truth is that every time I see the Duomo, it takes my breath! It's an extremely complex building: it has five naves, 52 big colunms inside, 135 spires, 3400 statues ( 2300 outside and 1100 inside)...these are only numbers, that can give you the idea of how incredible this cathedral is, but you will never understand until you see it. Only when you are in front of this masterpiece, you wonder "how is it possible that small men like me built a thing so huge centuries ago??"

This are questions that make you appreciate better everything you see, everything that make you ask question is definetly worth a visit...and Duomo di Milano is one of these!

stunning views~ May 21, 2011
The duomo in Milan is one of the biggest churches in the world.

It's hard not to notice and it's definitely a must see if you are in Milan.

From the outside it's simply stunning.

There are two options to get to the top, you can take the stairs or take the elevator.

From memory it is 5 euro for the stairs and 8 euro to take the elevator.

I would recommend taking the stairs, as you climb the narrow stairs you can appreciate the fact the church took over 500 years to build.

Most of the climbing is with an internal staircase, which was super for me because i have a fear of heights.

Although there are some stairs that you will need to climb on the outside to get to the roof.

I was absolutely terrified to say the least, but it was well worth it when we got to the roof and seen the amazing views of the city.

Don't forgot your camera =)

Sacred and Religious Destinations in Italy Jan 24, 2010
Milan is one of the world's fashion capital. It is also the business hub of Italy with the biggest international airport and Milan's Cathedral: the biggest religious attraction in the city. This review comes much later than it should. I traveled to Milan every year for 6 consecutive years to attend the BIT Travel fair held every year in February. During my visits, I mostly conducted business and was out before I knew it. Eventually I took time to tour Milan during the 2003 BIT Fair. I stayed a few days extra and managed to make it to the Cathedral.

Nothing prepares you for what meets you when you get to this outstanding building. It is a combination of Gothic and neo-Gothic architecture. The huge building is made of brick faced with marble from the quarries that Gian Galeazzo Visconti donated in perpetuity to the cathedral. 5 huge pillars inside the cathedral hold the weight of the high ceiling. The choir windows are a work to marvel at, the interior is so grand and magnificent. In comparison to the Basilica of St. Peter, the Duomo is a little dark inside. But architecturally, I think it out beats San Pietro.

The statute of the Madonna is inside the duomo, the cathedral was dedicated to Madonna. It is also the second largest cathedral in the world.

It is difficult to describe the shires and the beauty of the interior of this cathedral, I sincerely encourage you to see it for yourself. Plan on visiting it if you find yourself in Milan, or better yet make a trip to see it. Milan is big and busy, so it can feel no different from being in New York or London on a busy day.
