Duke's
Duke's Reviews
Apr 24, 2006This restaurant was a stop on our way back from Disneyland, recommended by one of the locals. This is where the beach and surf enthusiast goes for the traditional fish and chips, clam chowder, or fish tacos. The restaurant tries to impart to the patron the feel of a hawaiian beach house, but the ambiance just isn't there. The fare is average, surf town food, that does not distinguish itself much from every other surf spot in california - though the view is truly impressive. You get a window seat, and the entire beach spreads out before you. You can watch rollerbladders or bicyclers cruising by, people playing sand volleyball, surfers running into the waves with their boards, or see the hundreds of couples strolling on the pier. I tried the fish tacos, and though the meat was quite tasty, the rest was quite bland and uneventful. |

Ok,
so the big day came for the OC meet up. Our numbers dropped
significantly about 50%!! I think that's a TB first. It was already a
chaotic weekend for me (in a good way, but chaotic non the less).Erik
arrived the day before …Duke's was already at the Beer Co. Guess we took
longer than I thought... and I'm guessing they left right after Erik,
Warren and I left. The only person who didn't join us from the Duke's
group was Steve… I suck at hosting "meet ups" :-( OC meet #1 |

Shortly after getting to Duke's and going through the introductions....Steve (HBSurftrvler) had to take… OC Meetup |

This meet-up was put together by Angel.
I flew in earlier that day and got a rental car. The car rental place had a convertible corvette available for the low, low price of $250/day. Maybe one day...
After walking along the beach and d…were. Turns out I had walked right by them and didn't even see them. After hanging out for a while we went into Duke's for snacks and drinks. After a while everyone migrated over to the Beer Brewery for dinner. … TB meet #2 |

Since it was late and most of the shops were already closed. I convinced Mari to change into jeans and slippers to head to Huntington Beach to relax. She is only 20 so we couldn't hit the bars, but I could show her the pier since she has…Duke Hanamoku. We wander onto the pier and walk down and around Ruby's. The whole time Mari is teaching me some things in Japanese. I yell it at people walking the opposite direction. Mari cracks up and tells me, "no they… Let's just relax... I really need to just relax |
