City of Joyce Sep 24, 2013
An amazing city really... cosy little pubs where you can down Guinness pints while swaying to wonderful Irish tunes, lovely parks to lie in, some charming streets ... But it is the city's literary heritage that most strikes one ... especially the care with which ordinary Dubliners regard it ... Visit the Writer's Museum for a sample, take a Literary Pub Crawl out of the Duke Pub, engage with Dublin's contemporary literary scene ... and, of course, if you can, be there on June 16, Bloomsday, the date for the setting of James Joyce's Ulysses, when the whole city turns into a stage for the work... There are readings and performances out of the book, people dress up like the book's characters, there are Joyce tours visiting the various sites mentioned in the book and right up to Sandycove Tower, there is music in the streets, and restaurants offer menus from the book (including the famous gorgonzola and mustard sandwich with Burgundy wine, a snack one of the characters has in the book) ... even otherwise, a tour of places associated with Joyce and Ulysses is a fascinating insight into the city...

The city full of "craic", and no, it's not drugs!! Experience the welcoming atmosphere and fantastic night life that no other city can offer. Temple bar is expensive so i'd recommend anywhere on the south side of the city for a night out. During the day, The Guinness Storehouse is a cool place to visit. If you're renting a car then venture south towards County Wicklow and see the spectacular Glendalough lakes. A fantastic city, just don't forget your wallet!!

One really good night out is the Literary Pub Crawl. Venue: each evening at 7.30pm at The Duke Pub in Duke St. A good way to meet loads of people as you end up sitting with a different group at each pub. Good entertainment.

We got the Dublin Pass (which we booked online and picked up tickets at the airport...) You get Free entrance as well as discounts and freebies at a lot of places including eateries. And a massive 25% off the pub crawl. www.dublinpass.ie
