What a trip to my first European country.  First flight to Philly was a headache with screaming kids that did not listen, so no sleep for us. Then our over night trip was delayed, then very cold for the 7 hour flight but it was well worth it after landing in Dublin. After making thru customs we gathered out luggage and headed out to venture in our long awaited journey. After catching a bus to the Dublin's city center on O'Connell Street I marveled at the fact I was in Ireland. I was…

Then I ventured to the Shannon Region to meet the Travbuddies at the Get Together and visited Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, Limerick, Blarney Castle and kissed the Blarney Stone and finalized the trip at Cork.

Ended the trip where we started back in Dublin.  Before we left we checked out Croke Park.  It is the stadium where they play there games.  We took a tour get to see the press boxes learn about it's history.  One of the interesting facts is they have a lighting fixture in the players lounge that changes colors based on the colors of the teams in there at the time.  After that we just tried to enjoy ourselves in the pubs one last time before leaving and having a g…

A tour of Dublin from Derek, learning a bit of history, culture, and of course tasting some Guinness
posted by:

Originally I was just planning to see only a bit of Dublin before heading back to the airport, but after I got on with Derek so well in Paris, I was excited when he said that would be able to show me around his home city.... We jumped on the Airlink Bus, Derek explained to me all the new construction that is going on in Dublin, the expansion projects that were not there before.  We got off the bus, I saw the  Dublin Spire, a HUGE spike that replaced the Nelson Column, whi…

day six - Next stop...Dublin, Ireland!
posted by:
Oct 14, 2007 - Oct 25, 2007
I woke with a start in my top bunk at Barnacles hostel, a little disoriented and totally oblivious to the time. From what I could see, it was still early as all the beds around me were still filled. There were 9 others in the room with me. I forgot to set my traveler's clock and my mobile phone's battery was nearly dead so I waited in my bunk a bit, unsure if I should get up. It was definitely light out, but not a whole lot. I waited for someone else to stir first before climbing (trying not …

Dublin is a real nice place, with friendly people. Too bad that the alcohol and spirits are very expensive. But, you can eat in several restaurants for very reasonable prices and the quality is very good. And it's not all about Guiness... Don't forget to visit the South Coast (half an hour by train). Kilenny, Bono's place is an amazing village at the Coast line. (look at the pictures).

Dublin, Ireland- Day 1
posted by:

We met up with some friends we met the night before and walked to the Guiness Brewery at Saint James Gate.  Its a nice tour to walk through that teaches you about the brewing process, shows advertisments through the ages, a huge gift shop, and a nice bar at the top where you receive a free guiness.  The rest of the day we just strolled the city and watched some crazy Irish sport I don't think it was hurling but it wasn't rugby either so i'm not sure.  It was fun to watch with…

...Ah the emerald isle, we really did come up to Dublin to check out the pubs. I mean really, to have our travelin beer-fest on the road we had to come up here. And it was well worth it. Blake liked that we could communicate with the Irish easier than with the Germans, yet there was getting use to. DRINKING GUINNESS In this world we have beer drinkers that hate dark beer. They think that dark beer tastes nasty..okay...i think. But Blake is one of them and I cannot explain how much we discus…

My Goodness, My Guinness! (Adventures in Dublin)

Probably the best thing about Dublin is the Guinness. People are right when they say it doesn't travel well. And having a pint from the actually brewery was to die for :) I discovered another lovely irish beer called Kilkenny. It tastes like the offspring of a Smithwicks and Boddingtons. And of course how could I leave Dublin without visiting the Jameson Distillery! The food was pretty good, I mostly just ate fish and chips, and mushy peas (I thought of you Dave!). The pubs are great, they …
