And from Glendalough, we played Hangman for the rest of the duration of the bus (I was the STAR!) until we reached Dublin. We were to reach Dublin at 6pm but we were well ahead...reaching by 4pm. This caused frustration amongst many people as the real reason we reached this early was because Pike had to fly back to Manchester. Goodbye's done, I headed towards my hostel.
My room was booked at Barnacles, great to be back only this time I had to make do with a higher floor (yawn!). I…

When Jeff told me that he was coming to Dublin I was really looking forward to it, even if it would only be a few hours on a stopover. He said he would be just as happy if we only sat drinking in the airport bar until his flight had to leave. We decided to go into town and see something if at all possible.
So we dumped his bags off and jumped on the bus. On the journey into town, it was as if I had known Jeff a lot longer than the 4 days that we had known each other over in Paris. In the las…

The first thing I noticed in Dublin was the hustle and bustle of the people. Everyone had somewhere to be and they were all in a big hurry. Oh, my. Don't get me wrong; I enjoy all the excitement of a busy metropolis. But this is Ireland, not New York. I already yearned for the peaceful countryside we had been criss-crossing for the past six days. The stone buildings lining the streets are what I would call low-rise ~ nothing touching sky here. Excep…

Sept. 5, 2007: Day 1 in Ireland – Exploring Dublin with Minimal Sleep and Jetlag
The plane landed at Dublin International Airport at 5am (12am Eastern Standard Time). I had slept maybe two hours during the night. As I departed the aircraft I knew it would was going to be a day that tested my endurance.
As I waited for the 6am bus t…

I woke up late (no surprise there), finished the Dave Balducci book I've been fixed on (who knew the Supreme Court could be fun?), then headed out on a run out to Phoenix Park, Europe's biggest enclosed park. It was pretty far out west, but rightly so: it was massive. Just when you thought the road you had just crossed marked the end of the park, there'd be another mile to go, and so on and so forth. It was just like the Energizer bunny: Kept going, and going, and…

After driving in Ireland for the past five days Angie and I were ready to be stationary for the next two days before flying home. Driving in Ireland can be very stressful and being stuck in a car day after day can make you stir crazy even though the views are fabulous. I am hyper; I can’t sit still for long! So I was ready for Dublin!
But before we could get to our hotel, we had to drop off our rental car. That was a fiasco as the traffic to Dublin o…

Well less than 24 hours to go and still haven't packed a thing! The backpack is still in the cupboard and I have no idea when I will pack! Oh well, I guess this is all part of the excitement and adventure (or laziness ;-p )! Decided to go to Berlin straight away and spend two days there. Hopefully I will meet some nice people there to break me into the German way of life gently!!

So I jumped on the plane, delayed two hours and arrived tired and hungry and ready to stretch my legs in Ireland. My aunt and I decided a great way to see Ireland would be if we rented a car. I contacted my friend, Alex, who is studying in Northern Ireland to meet us in Dublin and away our trip went. We checked out from Avis, and I pretended that I knew how to drive a manuel. I had a concept, and have driven once or twice, but the last time I drove a s…

I stayed in Dublin with Jill on Saturday night as we arrived back very late from Girona, and on the Sunday we decided to head to Dublin Zoo in Phoenix Park! It was a great day, and if you're in Dublin it's worth taking a trip out to the zoo! After the zoo we sat down in the blazing sunshine in Phoenix Park before heading down to Dun Laoghaire to the beach. After managing an impossible three point turn once we figured out parking would be tough, we eventually parked between Monkstown and Blackr…

After a 24 hour flight from Sydney, I arrived in Cork to be met by Johnny, Anne Marie, JT and their friend Ross. Ross is an old friend from when the Tillers lived in Oman and was a host with the most driving us all around Corks country and coast. So beautiful. Drove up to a cliff where a local lighthouse was and nearly got blown into the sea by the chilly breeze. Went out to a local pub for dinner, Anne-Marie fell in love with the Crab Claws they served there! That night we stayed in a cute l…

Here I am eating breakfast in Dublin, Ireland. This is my first time here in this place. The breakfast was delightful. I think i had the best croissants in my entire life ( sorry Germany ). The morning was good, Blake is still asleep but I told him I would wake him up at 10. Not too sure what to do today. I'm not even sure if I will attend mass. When we're on a short schedule like this, there is soo much you want to see not regret! I can hear the wind blowing hard outside my window, I t…

On Sunday I met Christin for sushi.First I had a coffee in McCafe (served in a glass!?), then she cheated by having a quick cheese burger. We went to Phil Lynott's statue and watched the people for a while.Meeting point was the statue of Molly Melone. We met some colleagues of hers and then went to Aya, Dublin's favorite sushi bar. Sushi served on a belt. Roughly €3 per plate, depending on the color some are more expensive, some are cheaper. We heard there was supposed to be hap…

Today I was rudely awaken at around 10 by my 1 year old niece Emma as she came into my room holding a letter for me. The sudden realisation of impending doom hit me like a steam train out of control. Today was the day that I would find out if I passed my final exams to be a qualified accountant.
I know, I know, I've heard it all before, accountancy is not exactly the most exciting career but hey, it beats studying for 7 years to only end up becoming a Poo Doctor (no offence to any poo d…
