3-30-08   After a good nights sleep I woke up rested. I woke up before my alarm, so got up, showered and typed up my blog entry from the travel day/first day in Dublin. I bought a Bluetooth Travel Keyboard to use with my PDA. I decided I did not want to drag my laptop around this trip, so I am using the PDA. This set up is working just fine so far. The PDA has the applications I need and is much easier to pack and carry. In addition to the word processor I have it set up for GPS. I had…

Drunken Debauchery in Dublin...

Well, after the bender that was London, I arrived alone in Dublin exhausted and looking forward to a quiet night alone reading and chilling so I could gather some strength for a day of sightseeing. Found a really cool hostel and settled into the common room with my journal for all of 2 or 3 minutes before I got talking to some Australians and Canadians so sat and had a few beers with them while they prepared to go out drinking. They were trying to convince me to join them, but I was adamant a…

We're here and having a lovely time!   The trip over was not so great.  I'm hoping that the woman in front of me who insisted on having her seat fully reclined for the entire trip (effectively trapping me) gets a lousy hotel on a busy street with insufficient pillows.  :)   We took the train from Shannon to Dublin (because I booked the flight to Shannon before I learned it WASN'T the airport near Dublin...).  It gave us a chance to see the countryside and relax a …

Whilst trying to find cheep (but usable) flights, we found that Aer Lingus flys to Orlando during the summer ? But you can't route it from Heathrow, so we had to fly to Dublin on Wednesday evening and then spend the night at the Crown Plaza hotel (very Nice) and then check in for our flight to Orlando International (MCO)

Dublin Town

Now Dublin was a great place. Kilmainhem Gaol was very interesting. It was closed in 1924 and used in the film "In the name of the father". There was a good audio-visual display about the gaol that had you thinking. Some terrible things happened in the gaol during its time, not a place I would've been happy to be in. We stayed at the Ormond Hotel and again we had a room above the bar area, but thankfully the rucous didn't last too long at all. Touring the Temple area we dined at the Bad Ass…

Arrive in Dublin City with a rucksack full of not-quite-winter clothes and only winter shoes are the trainers on my feet.... being a girl I head to the nearest shoe shop where I tip over displays due to oversized bag on back and try on random boots.  All to no avail and apparently the Irish shop assistants are not as friendly as I remember.  Small dramas later and I can get settled into H and T's apartment in central city - yay.  Basically week spent wandering the river and spe…

Guiness and a double decker tour
posted by:

A fairly long drive towards Dublin but before we get there we visit New Grange to see the amazing burial chamber and mound.  For me this was the highlight.  Tours are strictly controlled numbers take from the visitor's centre by bus and we were able to get into a tour that began about two hours after our arrival.  Had lunch and walked through the display and explanatory area before it was time to catch the bus.  At the New Grange mound ( there are many more in the area and…

ok, so when you're planning to leave the country for a year and go over to the other side of the world, a two day bender is probably not a great idea in the days proir to your flight. especially when you haven't packed yet. as a result i was wrecked tired but unable to sleep due to excitement and having to pack. i eventually got everything sorted out a few hours before i was due to leave the house so i got a few winks and then the alarms went off at 2 am. less  than an hour later i…

Yet again it was time to set off on another trip with my school. We dont do things by half so this time i was off to Vietnam. 58 students in total but split into much smaller managable groups (thank god for that) The day before heading from Ireland we stayed in the school (not that there was any sleeping done) to be collected by the bus at 3.00am. Always a good start. Headed to the airport then from Dublin to London and more airports and checking in and passports and kids falling off trollies…

Whereas Kerry has quit her job, I have managed to get 6 month's unpaid leave from work so I had to do some face-to-face hand-overs of my bigger web development projects in addition to the (boring) documents I had written.  The best bit about this was I got a paid-for trip to Dublin to meet the guys (for only the second time in the 2 years I have worked with them!).Of course, this meant a good old social in the Fair City on the Tuesday night - a meal at Yamamori Noodle bar and some beers …
