During 2005 and 2006, I worked a 12 month contract in the Middle East. We would fly from the US to Dubai on commercial flights and take a charter flight from Dubai to our destination. We were able to tour parts of Dubai but never had enough time for a complete tour.…

Mark and I spent another five glorious days in Dubai. We stayed at the One&Only Palace at the Royal Mirage, which is simply stunning. It's very Arabic which is nice considering lots of the hotels are just very typical city hotels, even the ones on the beach like the Palace. It's linked with two…

My second overseas trip, but I didn't enjoy it as much as my Australia trip. Dubai is a city struggling to identify itself, but the leaders of Dubai have failed to realize that you can't buy culture or history. I consider it the Las Vegas of the Middle East.

Exiting the arrivals hall of Dubai International Airport, Angela and I jumped in a taxi, wondering what the United Arab Emirates would have to offer.
Our short one-hour flight from Qatar had been initially interesting. Apart from being the only Westerner’s aboard, we noticed something e…

So, where were we? Yes, 14 hours later when the plane finally landed in Dubai I was ready. I was ready to stand up, brush my teeth, move more then 6 inches and start recovering from the serious change in time. Took off from Atlanta at 9pm and landed in Dubai at 8pm the following d…

I traveled to Dubai with my girlfriend in Dec 2006 (now my ex). Another awesome place I can check off my list of places to visit. Arab culture with a touch of western influence, Dubai is a fantastic place to visit. You can see how much they invested in this country as soon as you enter the ai…

So okay, I had been very fascinated about the Dubai culture (as to not generalize the entire Arab region) since getting here a week and a half ago. My residence is mostly populated by men in a full Thawb/Dishdasha and women in full Abayas. I observed every detail of proper Middle Eastern conduct I …

"You`re going to the Middle East?? was the common refrain when I announced my decision to go teach in UAE. Friends and family all expressed surprise over my choice of destination. Come to think of it, the choice of Dubai surprised even me as I have never had a burning desire to see the Middle East.…

I never would have believed it until I saw it with my very own eyes. A step above from a simple hole in the ground, these stand-and-deliver style facilities are dime a dozen in Dubai (at least one city in the Middle East that I can speak for). I found this one near the Gold Souk next to the bus sta…
