If you plan to visit Poland by car make sure your driver is enough experienced. The roads are pretty tiny and curvy and there's pretty much traffic on the road.
It's pretty typical that in 70km/h zone people drive with 110km/h or even more. Speedlimit signs seem not to matter for people at all and thanks to that seems that there are pretty many accidents.
There's also a habit that cars ride on the road as right as possible when they are slower than others because in this case it's possible to have 3 driving lines instead of 2.
The traffic culture is pretty bad, so a young driver can be in some trouble and driving can take more time as expected.

Yes, it's true that the roads are in a bad shape - lots of bumps and holes but we're working on it. We don't have many highways and (as far as I know) those which exist aren't free of costs.
The polica doesn't really do much checking, apart of holiday sesons where there is much more traffic than regulary. However there are more and more machins which do it for them :P
But I don't think the "traffic culture" is all that bad. True - some young people who just got their drivers licence are insane but other than that...

I'm visiting Poland in 2 weeks. You wrote many people drive faster than allowed. Are there many speed checks by the police?

And are there any highways or is it just local roads?
