Dresden Germany May 03, 2017
Dresden is in the free state of Saxony Germany.. It is situated in a valley on the river Elbe near the Czech border.-- In history , Dresden was the capital of the Kings of Saxony. -- Towards the end of World War 2, the Allies bombed Dresden killing 25,000 people, and destroying the city centre.---After the war Dresden was in East Germany ,until Germany was unifided ----The Frauenkirke [ cathedral] was destroyed in the war. The ruins stood for 50 years as a memorial, then the church was rebuilt from 1994 to 2005.The newly built Frauenkirke has blackened stone from the destoyed church mixed in with the new stone. --There are river boat trips on the river Elba.--The location of Dresden is 100km [ 62 miles] from Leipzig, 150km [93 miles ] from Prague in Czech Rep. , Wroclaw in Poland is about 200km { 120 miles]---Dresden is well served by train. I stayed at the Ibis Hotel, there are 3 blocks of the hotel near the road to the rail station.
