Rüstkammer - Armoury, the era of the knights revisited Apr 22, 2017
The Royal Palace is also home of the magnificent Armoury. With more than 10,000 masterpieces created by armourers, artisans and craftsmen from Europe and the Orient it is one of the biggest and most magnificent collections of its kind in the world. The collection is displayed in several separate, permanent exhibitions:

The exhibit in the Hall of Giants are mostly suits or armour, guns, pistols, rapiers etc. but also the official robe which Augustus the Strong wore at the coronation procedure - one of the highlights. A favourite of visitors are the armoured horses with knights, depicting scenes of a jousting tournament. The kids love that in particular!

Then there's the Turkish Chamber, on the floor below. It has a stunning collection of osman art in the world. You can see weapons, clothes and as a special highlight three magnificent, huge tents made of gold and silk, even walk right in.

Another exhibit is titled: "Concept and Encounter: The World around 1600". It shows works originating from the late Renaissance. Only recently two other exhibits were opened: "The Electoral Wardrobe" (Original costumes that were worn by the Elector Princes of Saxony in the period from about 1550 to 1650, unparallelled among international museums) and "On the Way to Electoral Power" (the world’s largest collection of ceremonial weapons and costumes from the Reformation and early Baroque periods.)

Open Wed - Mon 10 - 18 h.

Admission: 12 Euro for adults, includes the other museums in the Royal Palace as well (New Green Vault etc.) but not the Historic Green Vault.
