In the center of Kalaw May 31, 2017
We arrived in Kalaw at 5:00 am taking the night bus from Hsipaw it was a long trip of 12 hour, the bus run through Inle Lake. While were in the bus the conductor asked which hotel in Kalaw we staying, he has a paper with him and he wrote down the name of the hotel.

Exactly 5 o'clock in the morning the bus dropped us on the main road, there were two other guys on the same bus get off in Kalaw, but we didn't asked them where they go. Imagine we arrived in the middle of nowhere in the dark, one man with his motorcycle stops and asked where we go, I asked him where is Dream Villa Hotel, he pointed us direction to this hotel. The street where we walk is lighted but the we can't see the name of the hotel because all buildings in the street has no lights. Another guy passing with motorcycle we asked him where this hotel? he said just right here, but we can't see which one as there are other house nearby.

Somehow we managed to use the light form our smartphone and check the hotel name and we're standing right infront but is closed (the gate) thinking again how we solve the problem, I check the comfirmation booking I see a phone number, so we ring we even heard the phone ringing outside but no one answer and we saw someone open the ligths and a guy open the gate

He let us in after we said we have a room reservation, I gave him the booking confirmation, without registration he gave us the roomkey. I think he feel sorry for us , he said just come down later with your passport for registration. Is normally 12:00 pm check in time, we don't mind waiting for few hours as we're planning to go on trekking at 8:30 am and plan to leave our luggage but we got the room which was nice without extra charged. We could sleep for a few hours before going on trek

Our room is at the second floor no elevator but he help us carry our luggage to our room. Is a simple room in wooden floor, partly of the wall is also in wood. The room had one big bed, no airco just electric fan, airconditioning is not necessary in Kalaw I think, in the evening is chill we can't go outside without a jumper.

Inside the room - a minibar, television, closet, two chairs and table, luggage rack, kettle, coffee and tea the bonus is the free wifi in the room. Our room window is facing to a monastery which was also a bonus as we have the pagoda view

Bathroom is good with toiletries, shower but no curtain, if you take shower the whole place get wet

Breakfast is included in the room rate and served between 7 and 9 am, a simple breakfst we had bread, eggs, fruits, pancake, coffe or tea

The nicest thing of this place is the location - markets, travel agents, shops are just outside. The price per night is 39$ with breakfast. And it has very friendly staff they also arrange trekking but is expensive, we found a little cheaper outside

I have never been to Kalaw. My late mother always told me that Kalaw was her favorite town in Myanmar. I hope I can travel there in the future and find out why my mother liked it so much!
