Downtown Backpackers Hostel Hong Kong Reviews
this has changed names several times due to bad reviews...see below for other names Sep 24, 2011
upon arriving here i realised the hostel had several allias's being tai wan hostel, hostel hk, ocean pearl, downtown, hong kong hostel just to name a few!
the entrance was daunting as lots of groups of men stand outside selling and annoying people walking the street!
you have to get into a jam packed lift with the "locals" (better known as druggies, prostitutes and pimps) when u finally get out onto the third floor it doesnt look inviting. the staff have been reviewed to be rude on here but the moment i was sarcastic back to them and smiled they liked me so that was good!!!
in the room i booked a mixed dorm, in the room there were just beds, no lockers, no where to put your clothes, no space really to put your bag, so I got changed made a hasty exit and left. when i was askin at reception how to get somewhere there was another girl there and she showed me the secret back stairs so i didnt have to go in the lift again (although i wouldnt recomend using the stairs after 9pm as all of the sellers on the street use the stairs as a urinal!)
ANYWAY! the room was £8 per night, i got a resonable bed, i was there for four nights and my bedding wasnt changed once and the bathroom was never clean.
It is unsafe for single females and I wouldnt recomend it to anyone.
This is the cheapest hostel in hong kong as far as i know but i dont think its worth putting yourself in danger or having your bags stolen by the millions of people that walk through the hostel per day.
thanks for reading!!
