I passed this area during my walk between Saltaire to Bingley Five Rise Locks in July 2016.

Dowley Gap Locks are two tier locks which were built in 1773 and raises the canal level up to 20 feet (6 metres). These structure are listed because of their interest architecturally and historically and are linked with the Three and Five Rise Locks further up the canal.

Dowley Gap Changeline Bridge is a packhorse bridge which was built around 1773 and this is where the towpath crosses from one side to another. The bridge's original purpose was for the boat horse and boat man to cross over the canal and 'change line' without a break in pace.

Dowley Gap Aquaduct is known as the "Severn Arches" aqueduct; James Brindley, a famous Midlands engineer, designed the aqueduct and John Longbotham (who designed the Bingley Locks) took care of the construction. The aqueduct carries the canal across the River Aire.
