Doubletree Guest Suites Doheny Beach Hotel Dana Point - Reviews - Dana Point

Doubletree Guest Suites is under the Hilton hotels chain. I wasn't expecting much since we've read some negative reviews about it but we just didn't have much choice since we were staying in Dana Point just overnight on a long weekend and most places around the area are fully booked or would only accomodates at least 2 nights' stay.

So when we arrived at the place and saw how lovely our room was (it looked like it was newly renovated), we were really happy. We took their Ocean view suite that costs 359USD per night (before taxes and other surcharges). The room had 2 double beds and with a salon area where the big comfy couch could be turned into a pull out bed. So it was perfect for accomodating the five of us. There is actually a door that can be closed to separate the salon and the bedroom so it's great for two families.

Other things I loved besides the room and the nice view:
--They provide Crabtree and Evelyn products for their toiletries, as with all hotels under the Hilton chain.
--They give out welcome cookies upon check in and the cookies are really good! They sell them for $10 for 7 pieces, I think. What an ingenious way of marketing to make extra profit, eh? ;)

Some things I didn't like:
--You have to pay for parking in their basement
--The accomodation does not include breakfast
--I think it is standard in Hilton hotels that they do not provide free wifi or internet access in the room. We had to pay $10 for a 24 hour wifi connection. But they do have two computer terminals in the lobby for free internet use.
--While it is nice that they have an open air resto/bar at the 4th floor where a live band plays, I do hope they would provide more quality band playing (yeah, unfortunately, the band playing there was quite outdated and needs more practice).
