Warning about rabies in Bali Feb 19, 2009
Until December 2008,Bali was considered to be rabies free. But since few weeks, several local people, bitten by stray dogs have died from rabies,a disease which affects the brain after an incubation of several weeks. The route of infection is usually by a bite exceptionnaly via an aerosol.
The Denpasar administration has vaccinated these last weeks 17000 dogs out of the estimated 20000 BUT you could become rabid by the cats, the cattle, the MONKEYS,the squirrels, the mice...and the BATS. So if you are planning to visit Bali, avoid direct contact with dogs,cats,monkeys,bats... If you are bitten or scratched by an animal, you should see a doctor. |
