Donsol Travel Guide

Donsol is a small municipality situated in the province of Sorsogon, in the south eastern region of Luzon. A 14-hour drive from Manila, it is frequented by tourists for one big reason - to interact with whale sharks.

Known as the Whale Shark Capital of the World, Donsol is host to the largest concentration of these gentle giants and has been declared an official sanctuary. With the help of the WWF, the Department of Tourism has been able develop whale shark interaction tours and in 2004 was named as one of the "Best Animal Encounter in Asia" by Time Magazine.

From Legaspi (about an hour's drive to Donsol), you can take a taxi to Donsol, or have transfer arrangements made with your resort. The drive should be pleasant as the roads have all been paved.
