Small Airport with Limitted international services. Nov 25, 2011
Domodedovo is the primary airport used by Transareo Airlines and it seems that is the primary carrier operating in and out of the airport. If you have a long layover in this airport you should come prepared. There are a limited number of eating establishments inside the airport and in most places you will need to pay with Rubbles or Credit cards. I did find that US Dollars were accepted with some hesitation. There is no currancy exchange in the Airport. The duty Free shop will accept basically any international currency but only for purchases. For international transfers thru the airport it is necessary to go to a transfer counter and then pass thru security again. The security does involve X-Ray of carry on and metal detector but didn't seem as thorough or invasive as that done in the US. The airport is non-smoking except for a smoking room, which my traveling companion, a smoker, found almost unbearable due to poor ventilation. WIFI is available in various parts of the airport and is free. Safety did not seem to be an issue and communication in English was generally not an issue.
