Domme Vacation Guide

Domme is a small and beautiful village located within the Département Dordogne. The setting is breathtaking: The village is located on a 250 high rock that towers over the river Dordogne. The village was built in the year 1281 at the instigation of King Philip III. Domme is a so called "bastide". These fortified villages were built in parts of medieval France during the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.

Domme is deemed to be one of the most beautiful villages in France. It has been labeled by the association of the same name ("Les Plus Beaux Villages de France"). Within the village there are some nice little shops offering local delicacies along the 'Grand Rue'. View from the viewing platform "La Barre" over the Dordogne river and the surrounding landscape is great. The platform is located in a corner of the "Place de la Halle" which is the central plaza of the village.

Domme hosts a small museum of local history ("Musee d'Art et de Traditions populaires") and a cave ("Grotte de Domme") which is located below the market hall ("la Halle").
