Mom and Dad had booked a whale-watching excursion before we left on this vacation so they went their own way.  Dan, Mike and I didn’t really have much in mind.  I was up at 6 a.m. getting our tender tickets.  Dominica was our only tender port THANK GOODNESS because tendering isn’t the most fun thing ever.  You sit around and wait for your ticket to be called.  Now, if you’re a late sleeper and a long breakfast-eater, tendering is fine.  But we want to get r…

Roseau, Dominica -› -› ...
What can I say that hasn't been said a thousand times before - Dominica diving is absolutely stellar. Go now! Today we have a cold and windy ride to a site called Dingle Dangle (or something that sounds kind of like that) where we see seahorses galore, a HUGE turtle feeding at the bottom, morays here, morays there, all punctuated by dozens of the biggest puffer fish I have ever seen. Spectacular. The second dive is Champagne, featuring natural bubbles and warm spots, but rather dead looking …

Deb (FishAtHeart) along with her hubby and daughter Lesley (PhinsAndGills) and her husband and his dad decided to leave the cold of Ohio winter weather and take a cruise in January.  Sounds like a pretty smart thing to do to me.  Well she took along a brand new camera and spent a week cruising, relaxing, and enjoying themselves in the Caribbean, and taking some amazing photos.  I picked one that I thought maybe I could improve just a tad.  Tell me what you think.   …

Roseau, Dominica and Whale Watching
posted by:
Jan 18, 2008 - Jan 27, 2008
We were up early for our entry in Roseau, Dominica.  My husband and I chose a whale watching excursion offered by the ship.  And rain again greeted us after we tendered in to port.  One sure sign of a beautiful day dawning was the rainbow we saw over our ship.  Shortly after embarking on the boat for whale watching, the sun appeared and the clouds began to leave. The description for this tour said that 90% of the time whales and/or dolphins will be seen.  The tour gu…

ok I haven't been that great at blogging recently, I will get around to finishing the last one eventually, but I wanted to quickly write before it gets too late and I decide not to do it.  We got our new group of students on the 16th, spent the next couple days in the BVI doing tons of diving, and have now made our way to Dominica via Antigua.  Our passage to Antigua was pretty rough, over half onboard were sick, but it shouldn't be that bad again, and we had a really nice sail last…

Dominica- Rasta Mans Rainforest Hike
posted by:
Mar 04, 2007 - Mar 10, 2007
Today we started our excursion at about noon and had a 5 hour tour/hike planned.  We picked the excursion "Rasta Man's Rainforest Hike."  We took a small van that sat the 9 of us on the tour, comfortably.  We had a driver and a local tour guide who answered all our questions and told us other information about the island.  We started with about an hour drive to the rain forest entrance which was very high up.  I would never be able to drive on this island... the roa…

Two days later we arrive in Port Roseau Dominica.  After a raining day in St. Thomas, the sun was bright in Dominica a relief to explore it.   We heard that Dominica had a very beautiful water fall and set to find with the help of locals. We notice that finding this waterfall will be a miracle in itself.  To find the route one needs a professional tour guide, something that we did not have. We spend hours looking for this place, traveled th…

Dominica…not the Dominican Republic. It was one of those incredibly elusive moments of perfect clarity that come to one so infrequently. One week on and it’s still an ultra vivid scene. I’m floating in the middle of Toucari Bay, it’s about ten-thirty in the evening and the warm sea is lapping round me like silk in a warm wind. All above me, the sky is positively bursting with stars. There are thousands and thousands more than I could ever see on the clearest night back home in Gloucest…
