Dolphin and Whale Watching
Dolphin and Whale Watching Bohol Reviews
The Dolphins of Bohol Apr 16, 2008
One of the activities that Bohol takes great pride in is the Dolphin (and Whale watching) off Panglao and Pamilacan Islands.
This is an ecotourism project in which former whale hunters now use their skills to take tourists for a one-of-a-kind experience to see the playful dolphins in their natural environment. While the dolphins can be seen all year round, whales make their presence known in the month of May.
You can have the activity arranged by your hotel, (in our case we had our travel guide arrange everything for us prior to arrival in Bohol), or the easiest is to just look for a boatman along the beach. They offer a cheaper deal (P1500-P2000/ US$30-45).
You really have to wake up early in the morning for this since the dolphins can only be seen not later than 8AM. The journey to the spot takes around 30 minutes, even earlier if you are lucky - and the dolphins never fail to strut their stuff, somersaults and all! It's a real treat!
After you've seen the dolphins you can opt to visit Balicasag Island for breakfast and snorkeling or walk the sandbar of Puntod Island (aka Virgin Island) until your hearts desire. Take note though, to have your boatman know of your intentions of visiting these islands beforehand. Usually a P2000 rate would include these side trips already. There's no need to add extra. It would be quite a lost if you paid that much and not be aware that you can also island hop, since wading in the waters of the sandbar is relaxing and fun experience.
