Dobongsan station is on lines 1 and 7. From exit 1, it's a short walk to the foot of the mountain - just follow the other hikers!

The hike entire hike (ascent and descent) should take somewhere between three and five hours depending on your fitness, how long you spend at the top and how many breaks you take to eat and drink.

Dobongsan and Baegundae are probably the most enjoyable hikes in the Seoul area as many other hikes are simply too short and/or easy.

The last few metres of the climb may pose a challenge to people who aren't used to hiking as you have to use fencing to hoist yourself up the small rockfaces near the peak which are fairly steep but not too steep. You may also be quite close to the edge of the peak on one or two brief occasions but the fencing is always there to hold onto.

Another thing which may be offputting is that there can be a slight build-up of people ascending or descending - at times you may have to stop and wait for people coming up or going down. It shouldn't be a much of a problem for most people though.

The views at the top are lovely. It defintely feels like you are more than 750m above Seoul. You can see the sprawling city below not too far in the distance but I think it would have to be an exceedingly clear day for you to see much more than the northern environs.

A hike up Dobongsan is the perfect way to spend a warm spring or autumn's day.

Don't forget to have some pajeon when you make it back down!
