This happened to me once, so I feel really stupid being swindled not only out of the $5 parking but the $35 fine I had to pay later for not having paid my parking at the meter.

It was more than one year ago, on one of those occasions when we went to San Francisco to a concert downtown at the Davies Symphony Hall, after parking the car, we were fiddling at the pay meter box trying to figure out how to pay the machine when this guy came up and told us the meter was broken and we can just pay him. Sure he gave us a little wrinkled ticket as a receipt, and off we went to the concert. When we got back, we found a parking ticket on our car for not having paid our parking fee. Anyway the parking authority did not take pity on my reason for not having paid, and I ended up having to pay the fine. Which is why tonight I took a photo of this warning sign at another parking lot nearby, which was good enough to post the warning for unsuspecting customers.
