Do step in Hostel Oct 11, 2011
We checked in at the Do Step In hostel in Vienna. The hostel has two buildings they use for visitors.

The hostel is just a short 5-10 minute walk away from the Westbahnhof train station and 10-15 minute walk away from the metro station you can use to get to the city center.

The main building has the reception, computer room, kitchen and a small outdoors area. The computer room is hopeless to use as there were many people waiting to use it. The hostel was completely full at the time we were there.

Lots of young people booked in there, but the hostel has no bar and they are supposed to be quiet after 10 pm anyway... So not the place to go if you want to party.

They also provide free wifi at both buildings. :)

Our building was just around the corner on the backside. They use key-cards to enter the main door and your room. The rooms does unfortunately not have security boxes or lockers.

They have two showers containing a small room with sink and a shower stall and two toilets opposite each other in the hallway. One for each gender. The shower head is loose and there is nowhere to hang it up so you have to hold it in your hand the entire time you're in there. There is fortunately enough room outside the shower stall to change and do the necessities in the sink without walking naked around in the corridors. There is also an additional sink outside the showers for everybody else that's not taking a shower. The chance for a que in the morning is huge when the hostel is fully booked.

The rooms are straight forward boring and the beds are all extremely squeaky and you need to make your own bed (not a huge issue, but we were missing a bedsheet and the girl at the reception would not believe us).

The hallway is very noisy, all conversations and people leaving and entering rooms/hallway was annoying for several people in my group. The rooms are often towards the main street where construction work in the morning was a huge noise problem for many people in my group. Fortunately I got up early each morning so that wasn't a huge problem for me.

This hostel is okay for short stays if you don't mind squeaky beds and loud noises in the hallways.

I personally would rather find somewhere else.

Nice clean hostel Oct 31, 2011
Do Step Inn is a bit far from the city centre but there is a metro station nearby so that's not much of a problem. It is located on the quiet street. There is a supermarket two minutes from the hostel.

I stayed in a 3-bed female dorm. It was small but cosy. However, the lockers were tiny so it was not possible to put my luggage there (even though it was just a small suitcase).

I loved the kitchen area, everything was new and modern. The bathrooms were also ok. The whole hostel was very clean.

Ah, and the staff greets you with a home-made wine :)

For quiet stays Mar 25, 2011
Great hostel, if you're looking for a quiet stay. Right opposite the Westbahnhof, silent district, not too far from the city center - you can reach easily by foot both the old town and the nice Schönbrunnen Castle.

Anyway, if you aim to wild fun you need to go somewhere else.
