Diving at 'Sponge Gardens'. Rangiputa Reviews

Once again I've rated this dive as average cost....if you have your own gear then you can do this for the cost of filling your cylinder because it's a shore dive. However, due to the need to dive during the hour of slack tide, I would advise you to visit Andre at A to Z Diving in either Kaitaia or Whatuwhiwhi to check the details.
Sponge Gardens is a shallow, shore dive (8-9m max at high tide) but being at the entrance to a harbour is subject to very strong currents. These currents bring great nutrients into the area and feed the aquatic life. As the name suggests, the site is a beautiful garden of orange, purple, blue and red sponges, bright green kelp and other seaweeds, and the fish life is flourishing.
Of particular note are the Nudibranchs, which due to the high concentration of nutrients grow several times bigger than anywhere else!!! The purple and orange 'Clown Nudibranchs' are my favourite!!!
Enjoy the dive but make sure you time the tides correctly!!!
