Divi Village Golf and Beach Resort Oranjestad Reviews
Excellent Hotel in Aruba Apr 09, 2012
Rented a 1 bedroom condo for $695 for 7 nights (plus $12 a night taxes). Great deal, got it on eBay of all places. The guy who listed it resells unused timeshares. The hotel was excellent in every respect, good location, clean, friendly staff, easy check in and out, nice amenities, etc. There's a great grocery store called "Lings" right next to the resort, bought $100 of food and booze the first night and it lasted me all week. The beach is right across the road, not even a 5 minute walk. Excellent beach, beautiful, and not crowded at all. This hotel is at the beginning of the "low rise" section, to get to the "high rise" section just take the bus ($3.50 RT, very clean, safe). The low rise section is rather quiet, the high rise section is where most of the people and action is. For me that was perfect, quiet when I wanted it and when I wanted something lively, I went to the high rise section.

Divi Dissapointment Jan 14, 2011
Our original reservation was made at the Divi Resort which is located right on the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean. About a week prior to our departure we were informed by the Divi management that they had overbooked and our suite was given away to another lucky guest. (Hope they enjoyed it). Not to despair they told us as we were now being "upgraded" to our own condo in the Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort which was located right across the street surrounded by the vast golfing courses.
Upon our arrival we were greeted by the nice staff at the front desk and driven to our condo, which was quite a far drive (even longer walk) from the main area of the resort. When we entered our condo,we were pleasantly surprised by the decor and the spaciousness of the place. Art and various paintings were hung up and placed around the rooms, the kitchen was very modern and we even had our own washer/dryer.
We were on the first floor and had a nice patio that overlooked the golf course and a little river that ran around the resort. I found it very peaceful to sit there listening to the water with a good book :)
Unfortunately our initial excitement soon turned into frustration. Upon further inspection of the place, we both realized that there were no mirrors. When I mean no mirrors I am not talking about a mirror out in the hallway or on the closet door. I mean that the mirrors were non existent, including in the bathrooms! We called the front desk and they must of though we were prank calling because after 45 minutes of waiting no one came. After 4 phone calls, our patience winding, staff finally came and not only brought mirrors but had to drill holes in our walls as hooks were never installed to begin with.
At this point we began getting ready for our night out. Wanting to refresh after the long flight, I decided to quickly jump in the shower. I went to turn on the hot water... 10 min.. 20 min.. the water was still cold. At this point we are not happy campers. We call AGAIN. This time around it turned out that the pipes were installed incorrectly, so really if you wanted cold you had to turn to hot and vice versa. Madness I tell you.
Ah and also, we had no remote controls. Of course that is a minor detail when you are on a tropical vacation, but I found it maddening when we finally did receive tv remotes and they were not for our TVs!!
As we were later informed by management, we were the first ones to stay in our condo as it was newly developed and we were the 'guinea pigs' to say the least. For the amount of money that was spent, the timeliness and attention to our condo 'issues' was extremely disappointing.
The beach is located right across the road from the resort and you must make a small trek to get to the sandy beaches and clear water. Also the main touristy area with all the bars/restaurants is a 15 minute cab drive which will always cost you $9 and $12 during the night. At night there are no attractions at the Divi Golf, but you can walk across the street to the main Divi Resort and find some bars and a live performance every night.
The resort does have two restaurants and a cafe, one of them being Mulligan's Bar and Restaurant that we frequented on two different occasions, once for breakfast and the other time for dinner. We were happy with the quality of food and the mimosas were quite refreshing. For breakfast I would recommend getting the Petit Brunch which offers a wide variety of choices, including cake and ice cream at the end. All at a very affordable price. Mudslides were also made very well and for any chocolate lover this is a must. The view from Mulligan's overlooked the golf course with the Caribbean in the distance.
There is a big pool that has a swim up bar which makes delicious pina coladas and of course after all you are at a resort surrounded by a golf course. So if golfing is what you enjoy, then this is an ideal place for you in Aruba.
Overall our stay was average. The poor quality of service was offset by the amazing time we had on the island. In conclusion this is not a place I would ever stay at or recommend to another traveller.
