Divar Island - Experience the local culture Mar 17, 2010
Divar island is one of the 7 islands located in the small state of Goa. The island is accessible through ferry from Old Goa, Raibandar and Narve. The Kokan railway passes through this island and the closest railway station is Karmali. Please check the train stops before boarding as only few trains that pass though here stop at this Karmali station.
This island is scenic with all colonial building and greenery. This island gives you an insight of how traditional villages in Goa were. The houses are spread out and with large compounds. The island also hosts its own version of carnival called “Bonderan”. This celebration is held during the Monsoon season.
There are a few tourists who visit this island on bicycle or 2 wheelers. This island also has a 15th century church at the hilltop on the island. The view from there is amazing. You can see all the huge monumens of Old Goa from here.
