Ditzum Overview

Ditzum is a beautiful small fishermen's village of about 700 inhabitants on the western bank of Ems river, close to Dollart bay and the Dutch border. It is located right outside Emssperrwerk, the huge lock across the Ems estuary. Its harbour is the last preserved "Sielhafen" in original shape in East Frisia. Fishing boats set out for shrimp fishing in the North Sea from here. The village centre consists of little brick houses around the church and the windmill.

Ditzum is a popular day trip destination among local people around Emden and Leer. A ferry connects it with Emden's suburb of Petkum on the opposite river bank.
