Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort Lake Buena Vista Reviews
Island Living Jun 10, 2007
For families desiring to stay on Disney property and able to spend a little more money, the Caribbean Beach Resort is a step up from the cheaper All-Star and Pop Resorts.
The Caribbean theme plays out in the lush, tropical landscaping and white sand beaches in each area of the resort. The different areas are named after various Caribbean islands and each one offers advantages and disadvantages. My family usually prefers to stay in Aruba since this island has a convenient stop on the bus route (usually first so you know you'll get on, sometimes first upon returning to the resort as well). It also has rooms that face EPCOT so you can see the fireworks from Illuminations. However, it is a trek from Old Port Royale with the main pool and eating areas.
Trinidad North is right next to Old Port Royale but is usually a later stop on the bus route. Trinidad South is far away from everything but this can result in a quieter environment. Barbados is near the Hospitality House which is really convenient for check-in but then is also a distance from Old Port Royale.
Rooms are either first or second floors. There are no elevators to the second floor which can make tugging luggage up a little difficult if it's heavy. However, the little lizards that run all over the place are less likely to crawl into your room through the air-conditioning vent on the second floor.
Rooms are basic: two beds, small table with chairs, a TV inside a cabinet. The sinks are outside the bathroom, and the sink space also has a curtain that can be pulled shut from the main part of the room which really helps with several people getting ready in the morning. A chest near the TV provides extra storage. There are no private balconies.
The eating area is mainly a food court. This can get crowded with the possibility of over 2000 guests in peak season. We just ate at off times when we wanted to eat at the resort. Mom would buy some fruit the night before and store it in the room for a quick breakfast; we would get pastries later in the park after going on some rides. Room service is available although pricey (no surprise there).
The pools are nice but a little small during the busy times. The main pool is not the most exciting of the Disney resort main pools, but it offers more than the island pools. The beaches are places to relax, swimming is not allowed in the lake. Laundry facilities are at the poolhouses (convenient to do when the family is swimming, inconvenient when it's raining).
The resort does not offer an exercise room but bikes are available for rent and the loop around the lake provides a scenic running route.
In relation to the Disney parks, Caribbean Beach Resort is a great choice for location. We had very short commutes to EPCOT and Studios especially.
