Dingle and the peninsula. Nov 10, 2017
The Dingle peninsula was supposed to be one of the highlights our trip, but the weather was the worst we experienced in our 10 days. The rain started coming down on the road into Dingle and didn't let up much all day. To make it worse as we parked up in Dingle, 5 coaches pulled in at the same time and disgorged 250 wet and hungry tourists. So, after a quick cup of hot chocolate, we were off on the road. The peninsula itself does have some remarkable sights though and even under the drizzle and high winds, I thoroughly enjoyed it, but will do my best to come back in more clement weather.

County Kerry's Other Magical Coast Oct 26, 2005
DINGLE PENINSULA

Those new to Ireland always head to County Kerry's Ring of Kerry. And rightly so, it is a wonderful area that deserves its accolades. However, many don't take time to explore the other magical coast nearby: The Dingle Peninsula (Corca Dhuibhne).

Because it's not as popular as the renowned Ring to the south, the Irish language and traditions of the peninsula have seemingly survived.

There are many wonders throughout the area. Dingle-peninsula.ie states, "There is no other landscape in western Europe with the density and variety of archaeological monuments as the Dingle Pensinsula." It also can be said with certainty that its most famous personality is a male bottlenose dolphin named Fungie who has wandered Dingle Bay for over 20 years.

That’s all fine and dandy; but what makes this area so special to me is its rugged coastline (we have no stinking oceans in Kansas). The gorgeous "photo-ops" and half-million sheep far outnumber the peninsula's 10,000 residents. Dingle's 64 km long and 16 km wide section makes this proud Italian, French, German-American wish there was a little leprechaun blood flowing through his veins :-D
