Din Tai Fung Reviews

Aug 20, 2007
Listed as one of the New York Times' best restaurants in the world, Din Tai Fung brings fine Chinese cuisine to a lucky few. The only location I've ever been to is the one in Singapore, under Paragon, right on Orchard Street. It's a great restaurant to have your second meal in Singapore, partially because it's all the more authentic and I just like it loads.

The restaurant's decor is simple and elegant, covered in granite with glass walls that divide the kitchen from the rest of the restaurant. The glass walls also allow you to peek into the creation of delicious dishes like Dim Sum, etc.

The atmosphere encourages waiters and waitresses to bustle around carrying dishes of steamming dumplings and fresh made dim sums. Thus once you choose something to your liking, the employees make note of it on a little bill, allowing you to be completely aware of the impending price.

The menu is fairly standard in the sense that it contains a variety of dumplings each filled with a variety of stuffings like duck, pork, beef, red beans, etc. There are loads of dim sums to pick from and the menu does contain staples like fried rice, hor fun, etc. However, make note of the fact that Din Tai Fung are known for their dim sums and dumplings.

Another note, is that the restaurant is pretty freaking popular. All the locals are in the know and it's a popular place for business lunches, family gatherings, and those types of charades. I'd recommend getting a reservation ahead of time, lest you enjoy standing in long lines watching other people eat warm, chinese goodness AND watch the chefs create the warm, chinese goodness.
