Dillard House Aug 03, 2008
What an awesome place to eat. You are served family style. Meaning that all your food is brought to you in large bowls and you serve yourself by passing everything around the table. You get plenty to eat and if you empty something all you have to do is ask for more. $20.95 for dinner and your drinks are extra. The foods are: smoked ham, country steak, grilled chicken, okra, green beans, butternut squash, cabbage casarole, stuffing, homemade biscuits and cornbread and peach cobbler for dessert. The atmosphere is southern and so is the food. Trust me I say everything was delicious. The service was great and everyone was very pleasent.
This was taken from the brochure: While fighting the Cherokees at the battle of Little Tenneesse Valley, a young John Dillard, was so taken with then the natural beauty of a pastoral valley in what would become Rabun County, that he dreamed of living there with a family someday. His dream came true years later, in the year 1820, when he moved his family to what is now known as Dillard, Georgia. Succeeding generationa have worked as farmers and innkeepers in this picturesque mountain country for almost two hundred years. They have planted, nurtured and harvested the crops, which fed their families and eventually their guest. Part of the Atlanta, Georgia 2008 travel blog |

Family Style Eating in the Mountains of Northern Georgia Apr 30, 2008
The Dillard House is the epitome of southern style and hospitality. It's a great place to take a big family, or a large group. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
All meals are served family style. You just sit down at your table, and the food starts rolling in on big platters. For dinner, there is prime rib, fried chicken, country ham, and barbequed chicken, accompanied by big bowls of vegetables grown locally. Potatoes au gratin, green beans, fried corn on the cob, fresh greens, broccoli, glazed carrots, cream-style corn, and salad. For dessert, cobbler with ice cream. Want seconds? Just ask your waiter. It's an amazing feast. And the view over the valley and the mountains is amazing. Breakfast is just as amazing -- bacon, link sausage, patty sausage, pork tenderloin, and country ham with fried eggs, scrambled eggs, candied apples, biscuits and gravy, blueberry muffins, cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit and juice. And not just some of that. All of that! Just come hungry. |

The Dillard House Jan 11, 2008
The Dillard House is a restaurant located in the mountains of northeastern Georgia. The area is absolutely beautiful. The restaurant has many large windows so you can enjoy the views while you eat. The order inside the restaurant is not normal though. You don't order the food, they just bring out a feast of all the food they have and put it on your table. You eat whatever you want from it, and if you want more, they'll bring it. Dessert, however, they will ask what you want from a small list of choices. Overall, I found the location and the view amazing. The food on the other hand kind of sucked. It's like eating at someone's house that thinks they can cook but they really aren't that good at cooking. My husband and my uncle (whom is a chef) thought the food was bad too. I wouldn't go back for the food, but I would go back for the view.
