East Timor is the newest nation in the world - it finally obtained their independense in 2002 after the occupation by Portugal and Indonesia.

Spent several months in East Timor during the 2001 election phase. Most of my time was in the Lautem area. The people were very friendly and helpful. The climate takes a bit of getting used to - hot and very humid.
