Due to the industrialization at the end of the 19th century, the scenic village of Differdange developed into a real mining center with a large community of workers from abroad that worked in the mines.
During the steel crisis the iron ore’s importance faded. Due to this decline of the iron industry during the last decades, the city of Differdange totally changed face. Only the production of iron beam’s at Arcelor’s steel factory was saved, giving international renown to the city of Differdange.
