Die Wiesse, Rupertgasse10 Salzburg Reviews
Aug 28, 2007
This place is on rupertgasse 10, less than 10 mins by foot from center, opposite a childrens play park, or kinderspielplatz.
main dishes start from 5 euro, soup is about 3.50 euro MC and visa are accepted, though cheaper to pay using euros!
This is one of THE best restaurant & breweries in Salzburg. It is old-fashioned and traditional, serving food that went over big in 1890.
Carry a big appetite if you dine here, as portions are larger than you get in England. Instead of butter, cold lard and cracklings are spread over dark rye bread. This is followed with the biggest Wiener schnitzel I ever seen.
The platter is accompanied by a freshly made salad, potatoes, and cranberry sauce. Other yummies include a platter of mixed sausages and perfectly roasted ham. Dumplings accompany main dishes.
Some diehard Austrian diners make a meal out of the dumplings themselves, especially the small Pinzgauer cheese dumplings which come in their own sauté pan, bubbling with a very tangy cheese. Naturally there's plenty of delicious weissbier beer to wash everything down, along with a bakery full of pretzels and freshly baked breads. For pudding, finish off with Apfelstrudel of course!
when i say free i mean it is free to v cheap as what you do is buy the cheapest grosse wiessbier 3.50 euro ("vicebear"), which is .5l, kleine is .33l, 2.50 euro or a can of pop size...
then order the cheapest meal on the menu, often suppe ("zoohp") [soup] request beer pretzels, if not provided, then fill up on the bread!
the stuffed dumplings are particularly yummy and the whole atmosphere when busy is jolly and high spirited. bring a group from your hostel and split the rechnung, allways by ordering the cheapest dishes of course if you're on a budget!
