Richard Turpin was born Sept 1705 in the Blue Bell Inn Hempstead Essex, England. He was executed 7 April 1739 on the Knavesmire York, England.--Romanticised in his fictional 200 mile ride from London to York, on his horse Black Bess.-- In his life he was a butcher, poacher, burglar, horse thief, and highwayman. Also known as John Palmer.-- In York Castle Museum is the prison cell Turpin is supposed to have occupied while waiting trial at York Assizes.--He was executed by hanging on the Knavesmire York,April 1739. --Today the Knavesmire is York"s famous horse race course. --The Knavesmire is south west of York centre on the Tadcaster Road.--On the Tadcaster Road is the tyburn execution site.-- His grave is marked by a plain grave stone in St. Georges graveyard Fishergate York,behind Tramways CIU club..
