Perfect Pottery Kebabs Apr 24, 2014
Dibek restaurant is one of the most exquisite places everyone should visit. Highly rated amongst the locals for the best quality food in Göreme, which from my own experience, is not an understatement in the slightest. Although, if you want to indulge in the experience, you must reserve in advance.

Located on the main street with all other restaurants, it can easily be missed. Look out for the restaurant along the canal and you will surely find it.

Interior is very rustic decorated with wooden tables, copper pots hanging on the walls, rock fireplace with burning fire and traditional woven carpets and sitting cushions creating homely and inviting atmosphere.

We went to the restaurant on recommendation from the locals. And indeed, we had to reserve specific time and date for dinner to try one of their specialty - Testi Kebabi (Pottery Kebab) which needs to be pre-ordered at least a day in advance. You can choose from meat, chicken or mushroom kebab and the choice must be made at the time of reservation. Luckily, they had an open reservation for Tuesday at 7pm.

When we arrived to the restaurant, we were taken to be seated at traditionally arranged table - low table with comfortable cushions around it.

Within minutes we were served a wide selection of vegetable salads, bread and drinks we ordered on entry. Little pottery jars, standing on the table, were opened to reveal fresh herb and spice dressings to accompany our dinner.

We did not have too much time to ravel in the salads as our starter arrived - Bulgur Çorbası (Bulgur Soup made with bulgur (cracked wheat), tomato, onion and spices). The flavour was bold, but perfectly balanced which gave it a splendid taste. It was fresh and cooked to the standard of Michelin star kitchen.

Shortly after the starter pottery kebabs were brought to the table in fully enclosed pottery dishes, to be cracked open in front of us, and hot kebab dishes to be plated for us immediately. Kebab dishes came with a portion of deliciously flavoured rice.

My choice of kebab was beef cooked with tomato, pepper, eggplant, potato and garlic. The meat was tender and succulent and perfectly balanced with the vegetables. Mixed herbs sprinkled onto the meat brought out even more flavour. Scrumptious dinner worth paying every penny.

Delighted with the meal, we decided to try one of the traditional desserts - Aside which is a traditional village dessert of Göreme made with flour, oil and pekmez (grape molasses) served with a sprinkle of dressing. It tasted deliciously.

Apart from the food, the service deserves to be praised - attentive and very polite waiters who seem to really enjoy providing for their customers' needs and requests.

I would give this place a glowing recommendation and invite everyone to try their specialty dishes. There will not be any disappointment.

Total price paid for the entire meal for 2 - €20 which is a bargain for such high quality food.
