Diamond Lake Track Wanaka Reviews
Enjoyable 1 hour walk with fabulous views (and sheep!) Dec 27, 2010
The starting point for the track is about a 10 minute drive from Wanaka in the direction of Mt Aspiring National Park. The walk to the Lake Wanaka lookout takes just over an hour to complete. The track is mostly uphill with a couple flatter sections. The path is crushed gravel for the most part but there is about a 30m section of large exposed rocks acting as a ladder. There are also several staircases.
The views include Diamond lake and a panoramic view of Lake Wanaka and the surrounding mountains. I did this walk on a rainy day so the views weren't as great as they could be but it was still a rewarding site after a decent climb. Part of the walk is on private property and there were a couple sheep watching me as I took in the views. I also came across four sheep on the non-private section of the track. I think they may have been a bit lost!
