Detras de la Catedral Huancayo Reviews
Good food behind the Cathedral at "Detras de la Catedral"' Nov 20, 2009
"Behind the Cathedral" is the exact translation of the name of this restaurant and couldn't be more accurate. This relative new restaurant is located 1 block behind the Cathedral.
This place was recommended and said that they had a great atmosphere, which includes a charcoal brazier, something really helpful during the cold nights in Huancayo. The location was very good, easy to reach and the decor was pefect. All wooden and with the brazier, cozy!!!
The menu was wide, so many options... many of the dishes use local ingredients, great! But which was really helpful is that most of the dishes have a picture next to them, hehehe. And the prices, OMG! They were cheap!!!
The minute you arrive, they give you complimentary evil corn (toasted corn) and keep on refilling your bowl as many times as needed. We came here for dinner and had the following:
Appetizer: "Ingenio de alcachofas" artichokes stuffed with mushrooms with bechamel sauce - delicious!
Main dishes: I got a salad with asparagus, mushrooms, broccoli and other veggies -very good!! While Shawn got the tacu tacu with trout: trout is very popular here and the tacu tacu is a mix of beans and rice.
To drink we just ordered coca tea for the altitude sickness. No room for desserts, although they all looked tempting...
Service was great. Our waitress was very helpful. The spicy sauces they bring to the table are very good and the presentation of the dishes is very nice too. They are working harder on the presentation of the food, good work! On Saturdays they have music and a small dance floor from 8 - 11pm
I was afraid this would be just a touristy place, with not so good food, but this was a great spot: tasty food, good service, cozy atmosphere, big portions and cheap!!! Couldn't have ask for anything more...
just notice they have a second location in the mall, but this one - the original - is much nicer :)
