Hello all,After my overnight cross-border bus, I slept until about 2pm. Not knowing anything about Piura, I asked at the desk what there was to see. I...

This was a day for adventure! We'd be on the Amazon itself! Our guides were Explorama Tours. Explorama was operated by two American expatriates. (Checking the web, I see Explorama is still in business in Iquitos.) As souveniers, the had for sale piranhas mounted on stands. I asked if the piranhas were real. I take my magic tricks (mostly cards) along with me to break the ice with other travellers. I put on a short performance, putting everyone in awe, and left the...

On leaving Cuenca, we had some serious travelling to do, starting with a 5 hour journey from Cuenca to Loja shortly followed by my first overnight bus ride (for another 8 hours) from Loja, going over the border into Peru to Piura. Journey pretty uneventful although with a local tradition to pay 10 cents to get out of the bus stations, my coin jammed prompting me to whack the machine and make a 20 cent profit as a load of change fell out - much to the consternation of the ticket off...
