It was deLICIous!  I felt emotionally and physically comfortable - until about day 6 when the weight gain started to take effect - and culturally stimulated and there were visual and audio and culinary delights!  Even a few tactile delights for my long, elegant hands!  The only thing that wasn't delicious was the air pollution.  Yea for grey mucous.  Well, there was that one OTHER thing, but it was only non-delicious a week after I got back, so that doesn't count.&nbs...

Finally arrived
posted by:

It took three weeks of the biggest highs and lows of my life before we finally arrived. I thought it would be simple--just buy a cheap plane ticket from edreams.com and then go! The actual purchase of my ticket was the only easy thing about it! Buying a ticket from the Spain-based travel company is no problem...if, and you only find out until AFTER the purchase, you have an address in Spain. My husband and I were in Uruguay, taking a break from classes and just hanging out for a few month...

Just like Los Angeles, only less skyscrapers, and more beautiful! There was a bit of smog and grafitti, but I'm guessing that can be found in any major city. My parents thought the grafitti was a shame, but I thought the grafitti was very artistic...funny, no?There are many, many cathedrals to be seen in the city, and just about as many KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken - fast food chain I had thought only existed in America) restaurants also. A nice place, but Lima itself isn't worth a trip. (Mach...

I didn't like Lima too much. It was ok staying in Miramar for several days. But as I do not have any relation to that city it makes it not very special to me. Miramar is the touristy barrio, its very clean and mostly safe. I prefered the part behind the bridge but it was forbidden going there as a tourist. A police man took us by his car to see some part of it. It's quite similar to Tecuicigalpa or San Pedro Sula (Honduras). We met some nice people on the big Mall in front of the sea. I g...

Almost every year I fly to Lima, where my father's family is from, in order to go to the dentist. I find few people reserve any significant time for this city on their way to cusco, but it is a wonderful place of paradoxes, real poverty and cultural wealth, progress and crumbling beauty, a place that's always overcast but where it hardly ever rains. I suggest everyone visit once to experience great food, true humility, and a slice of raw life. must see: art. market on avenida petit thouars

We arrived in Lima this morning. No complications. Not feeling so hot from this dinner of tapas I had last night. My friends don´t like our hotel very much so we´re moving to a place in Miraflores. Not many plans for the last few days here. Already started getting homesick back in Cusco. Will post pics later.   Lima is kind of uncool. no offense to limeños. there´s just not as much to do as in cusco. us gringos aren´t complete celebrities walking down the streets anymore. of cour...

Some random impressions and thoughts about Lima gathered in my first 3 weeks here:CLIMATE:It never rains in Lima.  At most there is a fine mist that comes down for hours in the late evening or night and eventually accumulates a bit on the ground.  Most of the greenery either survives well in a dry climate or is artificially watered.  There is a large water truck that comes by in each municipality (in the richer areas) and workers standing up in back spray water from a large hos...

Just when we thought we were gonna finally make it to Lima . . . Nope!! We'd hitched as far as Piura, but after that it was hopeless! Everything happens for a reason, right?! Don't know what it was, but in any case, luckily we came out safe. There we were on our way to the capital, when suddenly . . . Boom! The bus we were in gets in an accident! Thank God no one was hurt. But we still had a LONG ways to Lima! P.A.T.I.E.N.C.E!!! That's the key word here! After waiting 7 long hours we wer...
