Finally the night has come to meet Travbuddy Romain a French living in Miraflores sounds like a thrilling life :) we have been talking online for quite a while now. The day before I called Romain to ask where we should get together, he said "At Tayta at 7:00 in Larcomar" I was actually excited about he would be my first Travbuddy outside the United States in my homeland of Peru!!! :D)))) How awesome is that? Prior to the meet up I thought Rom was going to show up by himself because I thought ...

Very cultural day today! We took a taxi to the Museo Rafael Larco, a private museum with an outstanding collection of Peruvian antiquities - lots of gold pieces and a massive collection of ceramics from the various Peruvian cultures. This museum also has good English explanations in the main collection, although none in the temporary exhibition. The most unusual section here is the erotic collection - two rooms of rather explicit depictions of the sexual practices of the anc...

Arrived into Lima and then flew to Cusco, much better than the 20 hour bus journey we could have taken! We got into the tiny airport in Cusco after flying through the mountains which was amazing but slightly scary. The altitude hit us almost as we got off the plane, a feeling of light headedness and a feeling of someone stood on your head. Not too pleasant, but lets hope we adjust to it.
Cusco is a fantasic little city, with just breathtaking views and architecture. Its so much more than so...

I have to confess, I almost don't recognize the city, seeing it in the middle of summer. My previous experiences of a gray, polluted, humid, depressing urban jungle are happily things of the Lima winter only. Every day it's been in the 70s with brilliant sunlight, exuberant flowers and vegetation (although still artificially watered...rainfall in Lima is nil all year round), and the clear skies means the pollution and smog are able to disperse and blow away on the breezes that coo...

Today is all about recovery from the trek and planning my next few days. Once again unfortunately it's a Sunday so the travel agents I need to ask flight questions aren't open :( It shall also be known as 'clean clothes day' since a lot of my clothes went in to the laundry after the trek, now leaving me with an endless supply of clean shirts. Well by endless I mean four or so ;)
Basically things could pan out one of two ways from here.
Firstly, if I can get a flight from Lima to Cuzc...

Last night was very interesting... we went out to dinner at Los Delfines - The Dolphins. Was a very posh meal along side a window to a swimming pool maybe 1/2 to 1/3 the size of the 50m outdoor pool at the Lido, with two live dolphins. It was rather curious having them swim up along side your table and watch you eating a seafood dinner. They must get bored out of their tree but at least they aren´t being served for dinner!
There was a casino attached and I went in search of a...

ANDREI - Had to bid Nicola farewell as she was due to return to England while Kerry and I met up with Budget Expeditions tour in the evening. Tears were shed after she left to hook up with her friend Gemma and we had to get used to travelling without her.
After, we had another little wander around the vicinity of Hostal Roma, then congregated in the hostal's cafe for the pre-departure meeting with our tour leader (Mateo, a Brit - the locals have trouble pronouncing "Matthew")...

Elena and I first arrived at 7pm and discovered that Stragos Karaoke will open at 8pm, so we took the opportunity to catch some dinner before the Meetup. We went to a Japanese restaurant next door and was shortly joined by Yadi, Cinthia, Carlos, Barat, Raul and Susan. This was to be a mini Idols singing contest and awards were at stake here! The awards were for Best Duet, Sexiest/Most Passionate Singer, Best Dancer and, of course, the TB Lima Idol 2008 Award! The rules were simple, everyone w...

We weren't suppossed to end up in Lima, but because we didn't get on our flight....we decided to make the best of it by spending a day in Lima. We stayed in the Miraflores area and we were pleasantly surprised at the beautiful views of the Cliffs and the ocean. Watching the the Paragliders sail off the cliffs high above us was really exciting to see........until we decided to try it ourselves!!

First night in Lima we just went for a meal and went to bed because we were tired. The next day we went and saw some bones in a catacumb (dont know how to spell that) and went to some museams and cathedrals. The taxis here are crazy. We got drunk in loki hostel on the night which was really awesome and moved on to a place called tequila rocks which is really not.
We moved to another hotel and flew to cuzco with GAP adventures as part of our inca trail. We went for a meal with the other trekk...
