... no i'm not pissed yet but the title is just too good :) we took the public bus to pisco today which was quite an interesting experience: the busterminal in lima does not feel dodgy at all, the busses are much more comfortable than for example megabus in the uk and they even had two onboard movies - what a pleasant surprise the route was beautiful, across the coastline down to pisco, a small port town in peru. the whole distance of the beach is covered with shantytown like huts and the s...

Nazca, Peru -› Ica, Peru -› ...
Sky & me arrived to Nazca last night, after a long bus drive... We left Lima around 3:30pm and were at the hostel around 10:30pm. We were tired and just wanted to have something to drink and sleep. Our adventure started on Friday morning. We weren't 100% sure about what to do in Nazca. The only thing we knew for sure is that we wanted to fly over the Nazca lines. I have been reading about them since I was in school, but never overfliew them. So, this time was the right time to do it. We...

Lima, Peru -› Pisco, Peru -› ...
Had a fast breakfast and loaded up on our small bus and went south of Pisco to catch a moterboat to see the Ballestas Islands, a National Reserve .  On the way to the islands we went by a large figurine on the side of a hill that is so large it can be seen from 10-12 miles out to sea.  It is known it was there when the Spanish came but no one seems to know who made it or when.  Does not seem related to the Nazca lines.  The picture looks like a candelabro and is kno...

Lima, Peru -› Paracas, Peru -› ...
We left Lima on the 8.45am bus for the 4 hour trip to Paracas, driving through the Lima suburbs until hitting the open road.  Much of the coast along here is extremely arid, with the odd green oasis popping up.  Many of the villages have large ´´Christ the Redeemer´¨ style statues on nearby hills, and the earthquake damage from a few months ago is quite obvious.  There are many collapsed or damaged buildings, and still a lot of USAID tents about.  Our hotel here is rig...

DAY 1 So I arrived safe and sound. By the time I got here work for the day was finished so just a couple beers around the fire and then it was bed as up early... or so I thought! Turned out there was a hamburger eating contest just about to start and with my love of humburgers I couldnt resist joining in. There were 2 rounds: the first for speed and the second and all out asault to see how many you could stuff down you. I won the speed round; come on! but gave up after 3 burgers in the ...

So after all our trips to and fro Huacachina, we have decided on something important, getting that bloody holiday tan, so when we fly home (9DAYS AND COUNTING) we will look fresh and travelled.  So we spent most of yesterday out by the pool gaining a little red colouring.  We also spent most the morning sandboarding once again, but this time for only 3quid!! so we thought bugger it, why not, we got chatting with a girl from Nottingham on the dune buggy, her name was Louise and was s...

I joined my Budget Expeditions truck tour on August 18.  I have to call it a truck because Steve, the Aussie driver, charges you a beer if you call it a bus.  There are 33 of us onboard.  The mix is about 50/50 Aussies´s and Brits, a couple Irish, one Kiwi, and me.  I am representing the whole of North America.  It is a really fun group.  I am on the older end of the spectrum but there are 5 people older so it is OK.  We are camping for 5 nights straight ou...

Bag arrived just in the nick of time as we checked out of our hotel - shower, fresh clothes and 1/2 hour late for our meeting with local travel agent.  but first - funny breakfast story! As we walked into the breakfast room (at our very flash Lima hotel) Dave had a slightly 'uncomfortable' momento... sitting at the tables were very well presented business people, all set for offical business on a monday morning!  Meanwhile, he was looking rather scruffy given that he had the same c...

Lima, Peru -› Ica, Peru -› ...
I've never encountered a sand dune before, so when I found out about the dunes in Ica, I immediately made reservations to see the oasis I had read about in my beloved Lonely Planet, which by the way, I accidentally left on my bed! :( Luckily, one of my friends is arriving on the 15th and will be able to carry it with her:) I took Cruz Azul, which is the only bus line that my friend's aunt and uncle would allow me to take! Great comfy seats, snacks along the way, and wonderful companions as I ...

What a relief to leave Lima behind!  As soon as I got on the bus to take me south to Ica and Huacachina I felt everything lighten, my mood and my mental state.  Lima has been different this time. It’s much nicer in the summer, but even still, as the bus rolled through the outer suburbs and then squatters settlements and shanty areas of the extreme outskirts of Lima, and then into the unpopulated desert, I felt that it’s just not the place for me.  Staying in Lima would be t...

We booked a sand boarding tour today, was wicked fun! Basically it involves jumping in a buggee and roaming the sand dunes through the desert. We also got to sand board and it was terrifying at first because they are pretty steep and you go down on the board head first and pick up some serious speed! It was so awesome. The tur went for about 1 hour or so, we thought it was 2 hours but it was enough. The buggee was pretty fun aswell because the guide takes you over some rollercoaster-scary b...
