Buenos Aires is one of those cities where you can see the main tourist sights in 2-3 days. A lot of travellers hang around for a lot longer, but that is usually to take an extensive Spanish course or tango lessons, for which BsAs is the place to be. If you are not into those things, or simply do not have the time for it, and if you are not really a big city person (that would be the third reason to stay), then it is nice to get out of the city after some days.
That is pretty much what I did....

The ferry slowly pulled out of the docks at Buenos Aires to cross the Rio Plate to Uruguay, a 3 hour journey to Colonia del Sacramento. As the ferry left the smog surrounding the city, invisible within the city limits, suddenly became noticeable and the taller buildings of the city faded together as the boat moved farther out into the river. Our last bus ride of the trip was an enjoyable 2 hour saunter to Colonia del Sacramento. We arrived before the expected time which was nice especially since Emily was about to pee her pants. We took care of that business, bought our boat ticket to Buenos Aires, and made our way to our hostel, which was the first time we made room reservations in the whole trip (hostels had been rather full lately). Colonia Del Sacramento is a very lovely town. It is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Flowers in bloom abound and line the streets.
