The province is located in the South-Central area of Peru. The name is derived from two quechua words «aya» (death) and «cuchu» (outback).
The city of Ayacucho, capital of the province, is one of the most remarkable colonial urban settlements. Known for its religious festivities of Semana Santa (Holly Week) and for its several churches (33) and beautiful houses of European style. Tourist Site Attractions include: Huanta a valley known as "Esmeralda de los Andes" for its favorable location and rich biodiversity in flora and fauna; National Reservation Pampa Galeras known for protecting 18.000 vicuñas characterized by a landscape of plains surrounded by valleys and ravines; etc.

i don't think my words would do either the fantastic Inca trail or Machu Pichu justice so i'm just going to let the photos do the talking. I will say that anyone thinking of going to Machu Pichu should definately do the Inca trail if they can because it's fantastic and a great build up for Machu Pichu, and gives you chance to appreciate the whole Inca era much better. It is a fantastic trek through the Andies with magnificant views, but can be hard going, so be prepared and you will be reward...
