Arequipa is a province of great cultural and geographical wealth. It is located in the Southeast of Peru. And because its territory has a coast and sierra the climate is varied.
There are numerous points of interest in the Arequipa region. The coastal provinces have popular beaches. The Colca Canyon, twice as deep as the Grand Canyon. Colca Valley provides incredible close-up views of majestic Andean condors soaring in their natural habitat. Cotahuasi, is presently thought to be the deepest canyon in the world. Both canyons offer spectacular scenery and villages as yet unaffected by the modern world. Further to the north, lies the Valley of Volcanoes where almost 100 cones of various sizes dominate the lava-hardened landscape.

My sleep patterns have dramatically reversed since I´ve been traveling. I was up at 5:30 in the morning ready to have some breakfast and get on the trail. Magical is the perfect word to describe the experience here! Honestly, I had no clue as to what would await us during this tour, but I was so very pleased with what we saw.
And even though at some stops, it did seem as though the community had planned everything especially for us visitors, it was still nice to be greeted with song and dance.

We didn't know much about the Colca Canyon when we arrived in Arequipa, but we quickly got chatting tp some other travellers who had recently done a trek down into the canyon and really enjoyed it. 'Marlon the tour agent at our hotel reccommended we do the trek in three days, but we decided to tough it out and attempt to do the walk in two days as we needed to move on to Cusco a soon as possible.
