Apurimac comes from the quechua word Apu = God , Rimac = Speak. It's located in the center of Peru, between valleys and mountains. It offers beautiful and natural landscapes; besides important archeological vestiges.

Interesting tours around the region are: Curahuasi, Saywite and the Canyon of Apurimac River. Great for adventure tourismus.

The most important Archeological site is Choquequirao, located in Cusco, but visited through Abancay due to its accessibility.

It's a small city in the valleys in Highlands. Always sunny. So peaceful...  If you are looking for adventure, you have to do the Choquequirao trekking. It's amazing. The road to Ayucucho was paved until the town of Izcucho and thereafter a winding dirt path skirted the walls of the canyons as it followed a river downstream. In the beginning the railroad tracks followed alongside the road but these diverged here too, towards Huancavelica. A section of the tracks continued...
