Amazonas is a hidden part of northern Peru combining jungle, cloud forest and Andes slopes. It has a huge variety of compact mini-ecological zones and an altitude: 2.335 m.a.s.l.
There's a rainy season Nov - April, and a drier one May - Oct. Clouds come and go quickly, so you need a rain poncho at all times, but the weather is perfect. It was the cradle of the Chachapoyas civilization. You can see its development in stone buildings temples, fortresses, platforms, tumbs, pottery and cities. The fortress of Kuelap is considered one of the major Peruvian archeological monuments. Its high walls, wall-flanked alleys with cone shape, make this city a curious and misterious place.

I awoke early to the roosters crowing. Now, let me tell you that the widely held city dweller belief that the rooster crows at dawn is way off the mark. First of all, it’s well before dawn, and second, one or two times isn’t enough. They make a din and keep it up for awhile. Met them on the bus. Very nice Woman who invited me for lunch in her house. She has got a little kiosk at her home.
We, Tony from Australia and a guy from England, went to Kuelap. Kuelap is the second biggest Ruin besides the Cuzco Imperium. Archeloges are still discovering more of the beautiful Chachapoyas culture.

Gocta, is actually located slightly south of Pedro Ruiz, where I spent the night after arriving from Jaen, but Pedro Ruiz is so small it isn´t in the list of places on this website. To get to Pedro Ruiz I had to take a combi from Jaen to Bagua Grande and then take another one from Bagua Grande. Bague Grande was an oppressively hot dust bowl where everyone was just sitting around sweating. The scenery around the area was much like Arizona or Utah with canyons and red rock cliffs. Late start after getting into Chachapoyas at 5am. However breakfast was still laid on for us and Ezac (lad who talked us into staying at hostel) was still on duty. Really nice lad who after chatting for a while, insisted on showing us the sights of Chachapoyas once he had finished his shift.
